Welcome to the Soul Buddyz Clubs
Soul City South Africa cares about empowering communities. It’s about positive, organised action that gets things done. Soul City Institute is about preventing and reducing the incidence of HIV/Aids and alcohol-related violence in South Africa’s communities.
One of the ways we do this is via our Soul Buddyz Clubs programme, which extends the fun, learning and active participation from the TV screen – where the Soul Buddyz drama show is a favourite among kids – into the classroom.
The Soul Buddyz Clubs, established in 2003, are the result of children wanting to join the club after watching the popular children’s TV drama, Soul Buddyz on television. The Buddyz are friends who spend time together like clubs do. The project is a partnership between the Soul City Institute for Health and Development Communication, SABC Education and is supported by the National Department of Education.
The Clubs are specially designed for children aged 8 to 14, who get to become soul buddyz themselves by engaging with special material, activities, meetings and events that are run by trained Soul Buddyz facilitators (educators or librarians). The activities include fun, learning, and active and meaningful participation.
